Philip Monteiro is a Senegalese artist of Cape Verdean origin.
He began studying electronics, although as a teenager he was already passionate about music, he discovered Kassav and Manu Lima. Later he abandoned his studies to dedicate himself to his true passion: music.
In 1989 he emigrated to the U. S., where he settled outside Boston and met Teddy Riley, who was impressed with Philip’s talent and took his first steps in the music world with him. In 1995, Philip Monteiro, Calu Di Brava and the singer Gamma formed the trio “PHILIP MONTEIRO AND FRIENDS LOVERS”.
In 2002 he released “EL REMIX”, his first solo album that became a gold record.
With titles such as “AMOR” a duet with Viviane Ndour and “ALTA SEGURANCA”, Philip Monteiro became number 1 in several countries lusophones getting to be platinum record.
During the 2002 World Cup with the single “Gainde Njaay”, a hymn dedicated to the team of “Leoes de Teranga”, he managed to reach an even wider audience.
In 2004 he published the compilation “Philip Monteiro and friends”, with the participation of artists such as José Azancoth, Mariza, Talina, Gama, Paulette, JAIR OB1, AN2 and Princess Lover.
In 2005 his record “Tornado”was a great success that revealed the quality of the new musicians discovered by Philip Monteiro.
