Florin Opritescu is a Romanian actor born in Timisoara known for various roles in several Spanish films and especially for playing Vlad Dragic in the second season of the Spanish series Mar de Plástico, broadcast on Antena 3 and Netflix.
He studied economics at the Polytechnic University of Timisoara and, at the same time, trained as a customs agent at the University of Vamesi, a private university also in his city, Timisoara.
Since he was very young Florin already showed artistic concerns, so his mother decided to take him to take the admission test to the musical school “Flores”, directed by Giovani Matasaru.
At the age of 21, in the year 2000, Florin emigrated to Spain to try to make his concerns prosper. He began working as a cook in a restaurant where he met his wife and the mother of his two children.
Florin and his wife opened their own restaurant specializing in Romanian, Brazilian and Catalan food, which they would abandon a year later for moving away from the objectives they had set at the beginning. At the age of 30, he decided to devote himself to his true passion: Cinema.
He has participated in feature films such as: “Leaving Hotel Romantic”, “Dos a la Carta”, “Born”, “Villaviciosa de al Lado”, “Plan de Fuga”, “El Cuaderno de Sara”, and “El Desentierro”. He has also acted in television series such as: “Servir y Proteger”, “Ella es tu Padre”, and “Mar de Plástico”, in which he played Vlad Dragic, a cruel mobster
What struck me most when I contacted him to conduct this interview as he’s quite the opposite of the character called Vlad he played in the series “Mar de Plástico”, since Florin, in addition to being a great professional, he is a big man with an even bigger heart.
1. Hello. It is great to have you with us, please, tell us a little bit about yourself. Your background, education etc?
It´s a big pleasure talking to you today. My name is Florin Opritescu, I was born in Timisoara /Romania and I lived there until the age of 20 when I decided to come to Spain / Barcelona. I grew up in a worker´s neighborhood in my city. My father is a construcción engineer and my mother has worked for 35 years in a factory and now she lives in Barcelona, as well, and she continues working, but now in other areas. When I was young I practiced several sports and from the age of 7 to 11, I was part of a kids band called Flores where I was playing the guitar and I was voice singer as well. This was the only moment in my childhood and my adolescence when I got in touch with the art. When I was 30 years old, and I was already living in Barcelona I have found my reel passion: Acting. It was then when I have started my career and I am very happy to be able to do what I like: TO ACT !!!! A very important thing I wasn´t aware of when I started to act, was that in my family there where some artists already: my grandfather was a theatre actor and a singer, my uncle was a gospel singer and a writer, another uncle was a sculptor. Now I know and I am sure that the passion I feel for arts is an inheritance from my ancestors.
2. What attracted you to begin a career as an actor?
I think it was a matter of destiny. Only God knows when it´s time to find what we are looking for in life. I have had many others jobs before becoming an actor ( I was a chief for 6 years, I worked in construction for 5, I was sales agent too) and I am sure that everything I have learned it serves me well now. Quite often I don´t have to invent anything in order to construct a character, all comes from inside, from my life experience. I discovered this beautiful world of acting when I was 30, by mistake. I started to do to extra (helper) in some movies, only for the money ( at that time I was already married and I was the father of my 2 kids) ,and it was then when I realized that I would love to be an actor ( seeing the actors/actresses worming up, the way they were preparing the role and of course the cameras and their magic world).
3. Could you tell us about what you’re working on now?
Well, I finished to shoot a tv show called Snatch ( Sony Crackle ) and now I am preparing my next character for a film I´ll start to shoot in January 2019. At the same time, I am in the pre-production process of my first film that I write, produce, direct and act with my daughter. And there are more other things floating in the air not only here, in Spain. I am building my international career, I have managers in other countries such as UK (London), Italy (Rome), Balkans (Serbia), Venezuela/Colombia and lots of contacts in Romania and Brasil.
My next purpose is to find a manager in USA (Hollywood).
4. Who is your favorite actor, and why?
Marlon Brando, for his naturality, his method of acting and because of his revolutionary style.
5. Of all the roles you have played in the past, which is your favorite?
It´s hard to choose one role, I enjoyed all of them a lot. If I have to talk about one, today, I´ll tell you about VLAD. I played Vlad Dragic in a tv show called “Mar de Plástico”. It was very complicated to get in his skin because of his darkness and because of the bad things he was doing and his bad manners. At the same time was a very nice experience and being able to play him almost 6 months was a challenge to me. It was my first tv show with the main character and will always be in my heart and mind.
6. What role would you like to play?
I would love to play a boxer/kickboxer role, this is a must to me and why not an intellectual role ( a genius).
7. You can sing and dance, which dances do you like best?
I always felt something deep inside of me for the music. When I was a child, from the age of 7 to 11 I was a part of a kids band (playing the guitar and singing). I never had the opportunity to learn any type of dance but I consider myself with attitude for it and I hope one day to find time to do it.
8. What are your future plans? Your vision for the coming years.
What I really want for my career? I hope one day, soon, the people of international film industry ( Casting directors, Producers) will get to know me, because of my talent, and so I can live with my family in some small city at the beach , and when they´ll want me for a role I´ll travel in a country or another to shoot the film or TV series. This is what I call a stable international career.
9. Everybody needs a timeout. What do you do in your free time?
I have a beautiful wife, two beautiful kids ( a boy and a girl) and a dog (my third son) and every time I have some days off I enjoy the small moments with them. We travel together, everything that is not about work is about them.

11.AgoraKizomba magazine is about Afro-Latin rhythms, have you ever seen kizomba dance? What do you think about this kind of music and dance?
To tell you the truth I have never seen or heard Kizomba before. The moment I saw a video I fell in love with Kizomba´s rhythm and style. I truly believe this is the music and dance I was searching for, and it’s defined exactly my style. Thank you for introducing me to Kizomba world.
12. Finally, I’m sending you some links to Afro-Latin music and dance videos, can you tell us about your impressions?
The first one I like much more than the second !!!! Kizomba music to me is sensuality, class and the dance is a perfect harmony between two bodies. Soon I´ll start Kizomba classes, it´s too hot not to learn it.
